Curriculum

The Curriculum brings together 3 pathways - Skills for Independence, Craft and Movement.  Our Skills for Independence pathway gives students opportunity to learn, embed and transfer life skills, work skills and functional skills in order to prepare for their lives after college.  Our Craft pathway gives our students the opportunity to learn a range of practical skills through a sensory and therapeutic approach.  Our Movement pathway supports the physical and mental development of our students, working individually and as a group on stamina and perseverance.

Skills for Independence is at the heart of the Curriculum as many students have aspirations towards living as independent a life as possible.  All students are timetabled to attend sessions in Life Skills, Work Skills, Work Experience, Functional Skills, PSHE and Transition.

Our Craft pathway is central to our therapeutic learning. The craft activities are valued for both their therapeutic potential and also for developing transferable skills.  The development of skills within a craft support a sensory based experience whilst building each individual’s confidence and self-esteem by making items that are used within the community or sold as social enterprise.  The craft workshops on offer are Introduction to Crafts, Weavery, Pottery, Cookery, Garden, Bakery, Art and Donkey Care.  The Craft pathway develops students skills to enable potential voluntary or paid work opportunities beyond college.

Our Movement pathway consists of Bothmer Gymnastics, Eurythmy and Games which develops spatial awareness, body control and coordination.  Each student will improve their balance, uprightness, sense of rhythm and coordination which in turn leads to greater confidence, self-esteem and an improved ability to work effectively in other activities.
