General Description
Eat That Frog deliver bespoke programmes via small groups and 1:1 tuition, enabling young people with social, emotional and mental health barriers to build employability & social skills. We have a proven track record of helping learners who haven't thrived in mainstream education. Our dedicated tutors help learners develop at their own pace, with programmes designed to suit their interests. We understand some learners need more support than others, so along with improving functional Maths, English and IT, learners gain confidence and work-related skills. We regularly review each learner's educational programme, to ensure they're progressing with their studies, engaged and on-track to succeed!
Catchment Area
We are based in the South West, with training centres in Devon - Torbay (Torquay & Paignton), Plymouth and Newton Abbot. We also offer some provision virtually as tutor supported remote learning - please ask for more info to see if this is available in your area.
Curriculum
We offer full-time Study Programmes that are designed to prepare you for adulthood. They combine a specialist qualification with functional skills including English, Mathematics and IT as well as preparation and participation in employability. The Study Programme has been developed because we want to help everyone leaving school become well prepared for the workplace and higher education.
Through person-centred approaches, we provide bespoke courses for learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), specialising in supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. We create each learner’s pathway to suit their individual aspirations, so we add in extra vocational areas all the time to suit each learner as they join us. Functional skills will be embedded in your programme at the correct level to help you progress and achieve.
Some vocational subject areas our learners are currently studying include:
- Digital Skills - including interactive media, games design, music, IT, web design
- Construction skills
- Horticulture
- Catering
- Photography
- Business Studies
- Childcare
- Independent Living Skills
- Sports & Fitness
- Art & Crafts
Specialist Facilities
Our person-centred ethos and small, dedicated centres make us an ideal choice for young people who need help to build confidence and progress into adulthood.
What makes us really special is the effort we put into helping learners with social skills and coping mechanisms - helping reduce anxiety levels, manage social interactions and integrate into small groups. Our most recent Ofsted report praised our 'caring' and 'positive' learning environment, saying "Learners’ self-confidence and personal responsibility for their progress develop well during their time at college. Their improved self-awareness and ability to articulate their feelings reduce levels of personal anxiety. Effective support helps learners develop the resilience needed to overcome the learning challenges they may face. As a result, learners become more able to manage situations that they previously found very difficult and are positive about their future."
We have a strong focus on employability, preparing students for the challenges of work in their chosen area, e.g. via a Traineeship / Supported Internship / Apprenticeship, or by applying for Further Education. Our Work & Learning Coaches support learners with advice and guidance about suitable progression routes, helping arrange internal and external work experience placements.
Other Information
We work closely with The Prince’s Trust and other local providers, businesses and community groups to provide fun extra activities and days out through the summer holidays and as enrichment to our study programmes.
Learners also take part in fundraising and community projects throughout the year to foster a sense of ‘belonging’, but also to add value to all of our educational activities by encouraging 'real world' experiences, interactions and achievements.
