Inclusive pedagogy: teaching and learning for learners with SEND in FE

An online interactive introductory training package for staff working with young people aged 16–25 with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in specialist colleges and in specialist provision in general further education colleges. It will benefit those who are new to teaching learners with SEND, new to teaching in FE, are already teaching but have had no or little teacher training or those who require a refresh. The training will be of relevance to managers, team leaders, lead teachers, teachers, instructors and learning support staff with a significant teaching role.

The inclusive pedagogy training is delivered over a term in four 2-hour sessions allowing time in between the sessions for attendees to develop awareness, reflect on their learning and perhaps apply suggested strategies. The training incorporates a variety of learning activities, case studies, Padlet, polls, breakout rooms, discussion and quizzes. There will be opportunities for attendees to work in small groups, network and share experiences.

The overall aims of inclusive pedagogy training are to:

  • build your confidence in understanding how different types of SEN / impairment impact on ability to learn
  • provide tools and tips to support classroom delivery

  • support you to start to identify aspects of practice you would like to explore further.
