Overview
Natspec safeguarding services offer support with a focus on:
- holistic safeguarding: a person-centred approach, supporting all aspects of learner wellbeing, including physical health, mental and emotional well-being, social connections, environmental impacts
- complex multi-agency working with health, social care, CAMHS and families
- consent and capacity with a particular emphasis on the Mental Capacity Act, best-interest decisions, and involving learners in safeguarding processes where applicable
- adapted safeguarding practice including reasonable adjustments — using visual supports or Makaton in disclosure processes, tailoring risk assessments, and ensuring safeguarding materials are accessible
- risks that are heightened for learners with SEND, e.g. dependency on adults for care, higher risk of peer-on-peer abuse or exploitation, social isolation, or digital vulnerability.
- preparation for adulthood protecting students and promoting autonomy with safeguarding linking directly to outcomes around independence, supported living, and employability
- a tailored safeguarding curriculum: ‘Staying safe’ education delivered through highly differentiated approaches.
Bespoke safeguarding support
Whether you need a policy review, support with risk management and risk assessment processes, or implementing best practice, our bespoke consultancy service can be tailored to focus on particular areas where you have identified a need for improvement.
Process
Safeguarding bespoke services can be conducted both remotely over a half or full day, or through an on-site visit. An on-site visit would consist of an initial scoping call for planning, a pre-visit online meeting via Teams and a review of relevant documentation, followed by a site visit to gather information, have a tour of the site, and meet with key safeguarding personnel. After the visit, the associate will write up a comprehensive report which sets out an accurate description of your current position and offers advice on the next steps you might take.
Cost
Costs for this service will vary depending on how much support you require. The daily rate:
- for Natspec members, £650 a day plus VAT and any travel and accommodation costs incurred by the associate carrying out this work
- for Natspec affiliates, £700 a day plus VAT and any travel and accommodation costs incurred by the associate carrying out this work
- for non-members £800 a day plus VAT and any travel and accommodation costs incurred by the associate carrying out this work.
