The voice of specialist further education

Become a Natspec associate

Natspec offers specialist CPD for professionals concerned with the education and training of students aged 16-25 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) / Additional Learning Needs (ALN), as well as offering consultancy support to organisations concerned with the same.

Our training, consultancy and coaching services are delivered by associates all of whom are specialists in their subject areas with extensive experience of working in FE for learners with SEND / ALN. Natspec associates are paid competitive rates. Support is available to ensure the smooth running and high quality of the delivery of all services.

We are always looking to grow our associate pool of talent and welcome enquiries from individuals who have a good general understanding of SEND / ALN in FE alongside specific expertise or specialisms. If you would like to find out more about joining the Natspec associate pool, please email Yola Jacobsen at yola.jacobsen@natspec.org.uk for an initial conversation.

Joining the associate pool

Individuals will be asked to complete an application form detailing their skills, professional interests and experience, including information on specific recent work and details of two referees. Where an individual is applying as a secondee from a Natspec member organisation, they will need to provide details of their current employer, who must support their application.

Applications will be reviewed, and successful individuals informed promptly and asked to sign an annual associate agreement. The associate agreement does not guarantee any work.

Allocation of work

Work will be allocated in a fair and transparent way. In allocating work, Natspec will consider associates’ skills, experience, availability and location. Where more than one associate appears to match the requirements for a specific piece of work, several will be invited to bid for the work by submitting a short tender (no more than one side of A4).

Fees

Natspec will pay fixed fees at an indicative day rate from a published range, depending on the nature of the work. Reasonable expenses incurred while undertaking work on Natspec’s behalf will be also be paid.

Working on behalf of Natspec

Through their work and in their dealings with clients, associates will be expected to promote Natspec as an organisation specialising in supporting and improving provision for learners with SEND and in using learner voice as a key part of this process.

The work of associates will be subject to quality assurance processes, including delegate evaluation forms, client feedback and occasional observation by a member of Natspec staff. Natspec provides regular training and professional updating opportunities.

Natspec is the introductory organisation and acts as a quality matching service for associates and customers. For a six-month period after completion of a Natspec-commissioned assignment, any further work by the associate for the customer must be undertaken through Natspec unless agreed otherwise in writing, or the service being requested is one that Natspec already provides.

Intellectual property rights will sit with Natspec for any new material specifically developed by associates on behalf Natspec for its CPD and consultancy programme.
