Nadhim Zahawi has been appointed as the Secretary of State for Education.
Commenting on the appointment, Natspec CEO Clare Howard said:
“We welcome Nadhim Zahawi to the post of Education Secretary, having previously worked with him when he held the role of Children and Families Minister with responsibility for SEND in 2018-19.
It is particularly important at a time when new policies and legislation for SEND and FE are being introduced that we have a secretary of state with prior knowledge of these areas. We hope that Mr Zahawi will make students with SEND, and the colleges that serve them, a priority. These students are amongst the groups that have been hardest hit by the pandemic, and it is essential that the new Education Secretary introduces interventions and support to help them achieve their aspirations.
I look forward to working with Nadhim Zahawi to address some of the urgent issues facing specialist further education and ensuring that the needs of young people aged 16 and over with Education, Health and Care Plans are not overlooked in forthcoming policies and legislation for SEND and FE reform.”
