> SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) Offer

At Bromley Mencap Training Centre we cater for learners with moderate SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities).  We are committed to offering an inclusive curriculum to ensure the best possible progress for all of our learners whatever their needs and abilities.

All learners will have their EHCPs (Education and Health Care Plans) reviewed by the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) at their point of entry to identify diagnosis, needs and appropriate strategies which form part of the learner profiles.

Teaching is delivered in small groups, within a calm learning environment. In lessons, learners have the use of learning and sensory aids, including pen readers, colour overlays, sensory toys, coloured worksheet paper to ensure access to the curriculum. There is in-class support available through an LSA (Learning Support Assistant) whilst additional support is provided from our visiting SALT (Speech and Language Therapist).

Our SENCO leads on the annual review cycle for EHCPs, and all learners are involved in the Annual SEND Review meeting so they can provide feedback on their education and progress.

The Head of Curriculum & Quality works with the Bromley Council SEND Advisory Team (SENDAT) who visit every half term and provide specialist teacher advice and support. All staff have access to continuous training and development opportunities in current special needs concerns to ensure they are always working with the most up to date special needs theory and practice.
