About the students
Bevan College was formed in 2023, as part of the Bridgend College Group (a wholly owned subsidiary). We exist to provide high quality day and residential placements to young people with additional learning needs and disabilities, as an independent specialist post-16 institution.
Prior to becoming Bevan College, specialist residential provision had been provided by Bridgend College for more than 45 years, via Weston House, founded in 1978. The identity of Weston House has been retained as the living spaces for students residing at Bevan College. The College is regulated and inspected by Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) and Estyn.
We provide a twenty-four-hour inclusive and person-centred curriculum offer for young people with a range of additional learning needs, including autism, Down's Syndrome and complex learning disabilities. We also support students who have a range of medical needs, including epilepsy and diabetes.
Catchment
We are based in Bridgend, South Wales and we recruit students from across Wales.
Our residential offer is unique, offering placements from Sunday evening until late on a Friday afternoon during term time. Over many years, we have found this model of delivery to be incredibly effective in ensuring that our students retain important home and community links, providing opportunities for transferring skills acquisition and learning within different environments.
Curriculum
Bevan College offers a safe, nurturing, stimulating and happy environment where our young people can progress and gain the confidence and social skills they need for their futures. This is alongside completing their individual skill or curriculum goals and developing resilience as they move along their individual learner journey.
Using a Person Centred approach, our skilled, experienced and dedicated team of both teaching and care staff, strive to provide every young person with an individualised programme matched to their aspirations. Depending on the individual’s profile of needs this will include education, care, independent living skill's development, experiential learning, skills matched work placements and training within the college and through accessing the wider community.
