Beechwood College offers inspirational education for young people with an Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and other associated conditions. At Beechwood College we know that every young adult has potential. We aim to unlock that potential by delivering individual programmes of study that are based around a clear assessment of each student’s primary needs. Our vision and philosophy is based upon the principles of TEACCH, PECS and Makaton. We provide 24 hour, 7 days-a-week care and support for every residential student in every aspect of their daily lives. Beechwood College has its own highly skilled team of clinicians working in close partnership with the residential and education teams to meet the health needs of each student. Our unique 24-hour learning environment supports students to:
- increase communication
- build imagination and creativity
- develop social confidence and skills
- enhance sensory integration
Beechwood College takes students from across Wales, southern England and the Midlands.
Each student follows an individualised curriculum, based on a thorough assessment of their needs. We strive to build the curriculum around each student, ensuring that there is a clear learning pathway that is person-centred and specific to the individual’s growth and development. Within our curriculum, students have the opportunity to explore subject areas such as: • essential skills • creativity • music • life skills • work-related learning • sensory • recreation and leisure
We also offer the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme.
The College is a specialist-built facility with custom-built classrooms, music studio, vocational centre and carpentry workshop, plus outside facilities such as a polytunnel, gardens and student-run coffee shop. Beechwood College offers onsite clinical therapy: speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and dietetics.
