General Description

Activate is a specialist training provider offering personalised educational and vocational programmes. We work with young people who have a range of support needs from mild learning difficulties to profound and multiple learning difficulties.

Catchment Area

Activate are based within the Knowsley area of Liverpool and work with a number of different local authorities.

Curriculum

We have 3 programmes.

Work Skills Pathway is for 19 - 24 year olds with learning difficulties and disabilities and provides those learners who are able to, make a positive contribution to their community through the employment and/or voluntary sector with the skills to overcome their personal barriers to independence.

The programme consists of:

  • Personal and Social Development
  • Volunteering/Work Experience
  • Employability Skills
  • Community Links
  • PSHE - Personal, Social, Health, Education
  • Life Skills
  • Functional Skills

Maths and English are delivered with a ‘hands on’ practical approach and embedded into the programme. 

Students also take part in the following vocational options:

  • Horticulture
  • Catering
  • Animal Care
  • Practical Independence Skills
  • Art
  • Drama

Students work towards an accredited employability qualification which includes various vocational units. Maths and English qualifications are also offered on an individual basis.

Communication Pathway is for 19 - 24 year olds who have profound and multiple learning difficulties, severe learning difficulties or other conditions requiring high levels of support. To provide those learners with undeveloped social skills and communication, tools and a pathway to more independent living and choice making. Choices are centred around preparing for adulthood, likes, dislikes, engaging with the community, etc. using a personalised and consolidated communication strategy.

The programme consists of:

  • Personal and Social Development
  • Community Links
  • Sensory Activities
  • Vocational Skills such as Animal Care
  • Assistive Technology
  • Therapy Input - which can include hydro & rebound

Combination Pathway is a combination of the above pathways.

Specialist Facilities

State-of-the-art sensory pod, hygiene rooms and track hoisting. Technology such as iPads and switches used to enhance learning and aid in communication. Onsite vocational programmes including a small animal care centre, community café and horticulture base.
