General Description

Activate is a specialist training provider offering personalised educational and vocational programmes. We work with young people who have a range of support needs from mild learning difficulties to profound and multiple learning difficulties.

We have two programmes.

Activate Futures is for 19 - 24 year olds with learning difficulties and disabilities. It focuses on building the skills and experience needed to develop independence and prepare for the future.

The programme consists of:

  • personal and social development
  • volunteering/work experience
  • employability skills
  • local community projects
  • life skills
  • functional skills

Maths, English and ICT are delivered with a ‘hands on’ practical approach and embedded into the programme.

Students also take part in the following vocational options:

  • horticulture
  • catering
  • animal care
  • practical independence skills
  • creative studies
  • drama

Students work towards an accredited employability qualification which includes various vocational units. Maths and English qualifications are also offered on an individual basis.

Activate Choices is for 19 - 24 year olds who have profound and multiple learning difficulties, severe learning difficulties or other conditions requiring high levels of support. It continues to build upon what the young person was learning at school. Much of the focus is on individual and personal goals.

The programme consists of:

  • personal and social development
  • participation in community projects at our centre
  • trips into the local community
  • sensory activities
  • vocational skills such as animal care
  • assistive technology

Learners work towards an Open Awards Entry Level 1 Qualification in Personal Progress.
