The voice of specialist further education

Training bursaries

Bursaries are available to support leaders, managers, practitioners and support staff working in the Post-16 education and training sector to attend Continuous Professional Development (CPD) opportunities offered by the Education and Training Foundation.

Natspec distributes Education and Training Foundation (ETF) bursaries for organisations and individuals working in further education, to support workforce development and continuing professional development. Through the fund, we aim to ensure that leaders, managers, and practitioners are supported to understand and implement the SEND reforms, defined in the 2014 Children and Families Act and Code of Practice.

Who can apply and what can be funded?

Organisations and individuals working for further education and skills providers: further education colleges, sixth form colleges, independent specialist colleges, independent learning providers, local authority providers, specialist designated institutions, employer providers, and not for profit organisations.

Funds can be used to pay for travel and subsistence relating to events or training delivered by the foundation. (Please see the ETF website for a full list of courses)

Bursary funding can be used to cover the cost of:

  • The CPD opportunity
  • Travel and subsistence incurred to attend the CPD event
  • Accessibility costs incurred to attend the event
  • The bursary can also be used to support a second person to attend training with you, for example a SEND link governor or future senior leader who has a SEND background.

Terms and conditions

The ETF Bursary will not be given for expenditure incurred prior to the application being made and approved.  You must therefore ensure that you have received your acceptance email confirming that you are eligible for the bursary before you enter any agreement with suppliers.  You must not book your training, or travel prior to receiving your offer email as bursary payments cannot be made retrospectively against services that have already occurred or been arranged.

Payment of the bursary will be made in arrears on receipt of all the required invoices and receipts, which are dated after the date of the acceptance e mail.

Bursaries are discretionary. In most cases the bursary will only fund up to a maximum of £250 per person with no more than three persons per organisation funded.  Some exceptions to this limit apply in specific circumstances.
