Time:

3:45pm–4:45pm

Location:

Zoom
This event is run as part of the ETF’s Centres for Excellence in SEND programme.

As part of the Knowledge Exchange Network: Enabling inclusion for learners with SEND and neurodivergence this fully funded session, facilitated by Natspec, will explore working with learners who have a demand avoidance profile that may be characterised as pathological demand avoidance or as part of their neurodivergence. Participants will share challenges and strategies to enable learners to participate fully in learning without lowering expectations.

Who is this for?

This Knowledge Exchange Network is for teachers and practitioners in the FE and Skills sector, managers and learning support staff.

Training aim

This session will explore working with learners who have a demand avoidance profile. Practitioners are experiencing more learners who have this label, alongside one of pathological demand avoidance and/or autism. The approach practitioners take to making demands on this group of learners can have significant consequences for learning and achievement.

This session will explore both challenges and successful strategies that can support effective teaching practice.

Outcomes

In this session you will:

  • Reflect and explore your practice working with learners with a demand avoidance profile, including how the label either supports or acts as a barrier.
  • Share challenges and strategies for effective teaching and support.
