What’s the climate like in your class? Understanding your SEMH students’ needs to provide appropriate strategies and support

This session, facilitated by Natspec, will provide opportunities to explore the needs of young people as they enter the learning space.

Who is this for?

The session is for teachers and practitioners in the FE and skills sector and learning support staff.

Training aim

This training will concentrate on the experiences outside the classroom and assisting young people in finding their own ‘colour’. Touching on zones of regulation, holistic support and easy wins.

Outcomes

• gain an understanding of ‘zones of regulation’
• explore the different colours and how these may present in young people
• have the opportunity to share experiences of working with young people in breakout sessions
• understand skills needed and strategies to de-escalate learners who are presenting as dysregulated
• understand the importance of trusted adults and mentoring to support mental health
