This event is run as part of the ETF’s Centres for Excellence in SEND programme.

This session, facilitated by Natspec, will explore how learners with SEND and neurodivergent learners face greater challenges with managing cognitive load than their peers. The session will include teaching strategies and that can reduce cognitive overload and ensure learners can maximise their learning opportunities.

Who is this for?

This session is for tutors and learning support staff that deliver and support lessons to learners with SEND and neurodivergent learners.

Training aim

This training will cover how learners with SEND and neurodivergent learners are more at risk of cognitive overload and how practitioners can use pedagogical approaches that will enable learners to manage their cognitive load more effectively.

Outcomes

You will have the knowledge and confidence to:

  • to understand the impact of cognitive load on learners with SEND and neurodivergent learners,
  • to consider teaching and learning strategies that reduce cognitive overload and maximise learning opportunities.
