TechAbility’s 2020 Conference, ‘Access to a Digital Future’ brings together practitioners, experts and suppliers to discuss and demonstrate how a digital future can be made accessible to all, with the right use of technology.

For 2020, the conference will be hosted online

This one day event will bring together practitioners, experts and suppliers from across the assistive technology field.

TechAbility 2020 themes

  • What organisations have learned during the COVID-19 crisis
  • How accessibility must be considered in remote learning
  • Ways in which people have benefited from the shift to digital
  • Recent developments in Assistive Technology
  • Updates on Assistive Technology projects, research and CPD

What the day contains

There will be two types of sessions happening throughout the day.

The first, a series of 20 minute presentations, practice based and providing practical solutions to issues you might be facing. These include:

  • Accessibility insights from remote assessment
  • Accessible Gaming – where do I start and who can help?
  • Apps for independence – lessons from India
  • Widening access? The future of assistive technology policy in the UK
  • Get qualified – becoming an Educational Assistive Technologist
  • Sensory Rooms – Getting it right.

The second, a series of 5 minute AT-shorts, highlight new AT projects, suppliers, and quick fire hints. These include:

  • Earswitch – ground breaking switch operated from your inner ear
  • NuVoic – research into translating dysarthric speech
  • 3D printed switch project
  • Projects created using BBC Micro
  • The AT’s role in the special education classroom
  • 5 AT Solutions in 5 Minutes
  • Supporting AT in practice – a roadmap for success

There will be four sessions during the day when delegates will get a chance to question presenters and discuss solutions and issues with colleagues from other settings.

Other need to knows

Prize draw

All delegates who attend a least 2 sessions and 2 AT shorts will be entered into the prize draw. The following specialist companies have kindly provided prizes: Abilia UK, LexAble, TechEd Marketing, Sonocent, Claro Software, Skoogmusic, Tobii Dynavox. Delegates will also have the chance to watch AT shorts highlighting their hardware and / or software offer.

All AT shorts are pre-recorded, so delegates from attending organisations will have a chance to catch up on the ones they have missed.

Zoom essentials

To ensure you have the best conference experience you will require the latest version of the Zoom application. Download and install the Zoom application on your PC/Mac or get the App from the App Store or Play Store. If you cannot install or update the app please talk to your organisation’s IT support. You can still attend through a browser but your level of interaction will be limited. Cost

Instead of charging per attendee, we are currently extending our usual fee to cover the whole college/organisation. We therefore encourage multiple colleagues to attend this event where relevant.
