This national discussion, for all Natspec members, will focus on the topic of “Planning for September”. With new government guidance recently issued, how is your college planning to bring back all learners in the Autumn Term? Please join the conversation and share your ideas with other members on topics such as:

New starters: Are you extending the period of initial assessment to address any gaps from having done virtual assessments for new starters? Are you planning a phased return or start for any learners? If so, on what basis and how will that be managed?

Curriculum planning: How are you grouping students? What impact will that have on the curriculum? What are you anticipating will need to change in your curriculum offer as a result of the pandemic, e.g. will you make the same use of the local community as previously; how will you manage SIs – will you frontload college-based learning and follow up with more intense period of work placement? Do you anticipate offering some form of blended learning?

Site management/other: How are you implementing the government guidance on “Prevent” and “Respond” to infection? Do you plan to include any new health and hygiene elements? How will you try to limit mixing between groups and manage the risks of specialist staff (e.g. therapists) moving between them? How will transport arrangements impact on your planning? Can your setting introduce any social distancing, and if not, what measures are you putting in place instead?
