Many Natspec colleges have been established by a Multi Academy Trust or by a school, and still have links to the school such as employment of staff, pension arrangements, or support functions such as HR, finance, estates or IT. School funding regulations mean that young people over 19 cannot be placed at a school, so the linked college must be a separate legal organisation.
Natspec members in this position have asked us how best to achieve an effective balance between creating separation and retaining some of the advantages of links with a school or MAT.
