This workshop is an interactive session for learning support managers or managers of SEND provision in the FE sector. If you already manage learning support assistants (LSAs) and are ready to review and maximise the effectiveness of this resource in a collaborative and positive way, then this workshop is for you.  Each manager attending is asked to bring an LSA with them.

This workshop will help managers to
  • Understand the evidence about what works – and what doesn’t – when utilising LSAs
  • Make changes in a positive, student-focused way
  • Develop an action plan and some outcome measures tailored to their own settings

The evidence on the effectiveness of LSAs suggests that often they do not make a significant, positive impact on learning. But, what if there were ways to avoid the pitfalls and turn them into a valuable resource? How would we manage the necessary changes to ensure that everyone – staff, parents and learners – is signed up to a new way forward?

Your trainer: John Brown is an experienced SEND consultant. He spent 17 years as a practitioner, examiner and senior manager in schools and colleges where he taught English and ESOL and on programmes for students with SEND.  He is a governor of an independent specialist college and on the management committee of an independent training provider.  He was head of inclusion at QCA and head of SENJIT at University College London Institute of Education where he taught on masters programmes.

You are welcome to attend alone but we would stress that some of the activities involve planning to make changes across departments and are designed for pair-working between LSA and manager and they will therefore not get the full benefit by attending alone.  The fee for a single place is the same as the fee for the joint place.

Costs
The price includes TWO places, one for a manager and one for a Learning Support Assistant.  Both must attend the course to get the full benefit. This is an introductory offer for this course.
