Lessening the load? Enabling sensory regulation for neurodivergent learners in SEND provision

This event is run as part of the ETF’s Centres for Excellence in SEND programme.

This session, facilitated by Natspec, will explore how post 16 provision can enable neurodivergent learners with a range of sensory processing needs to access learning opportunities that support their sensory and emotional regulation.

Who is this for?

The session is for teachers and practitioners in the FE and skills sector and learning support staff.

Training aim

This training will explore will explore how sensory processing needs can affect neurodivergent learners. It will provide strategies to support sensory integration through environmental adaptations and teaching practice along with case studies that demonstrate practical ways to meet learner’s needs and maximise their opportunities for learning.

Outcomes

  • Explore what sensory processing and sensory ‘overload’ means for neurodivergent learners.
  • Hear about strategies to support learners with sensory integration and how to avoid sensory ‘overload’.
  • Develop an understanding of a neuro-affirming approach to meeting learner’s sensory needs.
