An interactive workshop, delivered through Natspec Transform for Natspec members who are planning to introduce supported internships or improve or expand their existing provision.

A supported internship is a type of study programme specifically aimed at young people aged 16 to 24 with an EHC plan, who want to move into employment and need extra support to do so.  They are very effective in helping young people with SEND achieve paid employment.

This workshop will

  • introduce you to a range of supported internship models
  • explore planning considerations such as staffing, employer engagement, partnership-working and recruitment of learners
  • provide you with examples of effective practice
  • help you review and improve existing provision
  • give you the opportunity to work together to tackle specific challenges

Your trainer: Caro Birtles is an experienced FE SEND practitioner and consultant.  In her most recent role at National Star, an outstanding Independent Specialist College, she was responsible for recruiting and assessing potential interns, working with them to identify appropriate placements, and providing training for employers.
