This live session, facilitated by Natspec, will introduce participants to strategies, activities and ideas related to initial assessments and their value in SEND planning. We will explore how pre-enrolment activities and induction can be used to identify outcomes, targets, and aspirations for learners and inform curriculum choices.

There will be opportunities to hear from professional colleagues about their approach to assessment and planning for RARPA based courses.

Who is this for?

This training is intended to provide information to managers, course leaders and practitioners in further education colleges who have responsibility for identifying current skills and knowledge and planning effective study programmes for learners with SEND.

Training aim

What do we mean?

We will start with identifying what baseline assessments are and how this is carried out in colleges

Benefits and potential barriers?

We will explore the benefits of using assessments to determine levels and abilities of learners before finalising study programmes and also consider the potential barriers that may be faced in further education colleges.

Where to start?

We will look at the range of options available when assessing learners and how much is needed to provide a rounded view of individuals.

What needs to be included?

We will consider what information is needed and identify sources that we could miss.

Outcomes

You will have the knowledge and confidence to

  • approach initial and baseline assessments that provide you with sufficient information to plan your learners’ programmes
