General Description

Our students are aged between 16-25 years from all London boroughs with mild to moderate learning disabilities or ASD. Leighton College is an appropriate provision for young people who may find it difficult to cope in a larger or mainstream environment.

Our courses build students’ confidence in communication, develop skills for independent living, and prepare them for employment. The courses include lessons in Literacy, Numeracy, Cookery, Drama, Sports and Art.  Community learning is integral to the course-students receive support to access public transport and learn about their local community and services.

Curriculum

We are a further education provision for young people with learning disabilities. We deliver two courses, the Personal Development course (two years) and the Employability course (one year). Students acheive Ascentis qualifications iboth Life Skills and Employment Skills including numeracy and literacy. Student are also entered into the Arts Award qualification.

Leighton College has a programme of work placements opportunities throughout the academic year. Opportunities include placements in local businesses, retail, catering and animal welfare.

Students have access to Art Therapy sessions. 

Specialist Facilities

We have a team of experienced and qualified tutors and learning support staff. The college is equipped with up to date ICT equipment and fascilities.

Our partnerships include John Lewis, ARAP, Greenwood Centre, Wahaca, PDSA, Oxfam, Scope, British Heart Foundation, Camden libraries, Kentish Town City Farm, Keir Starmer MP,  to name but a few.
